

Isabelle (Isabel) Sara Metcalfe was born on April 29, 1929 to Simone and Irma Poggi (Ciolfi). She was the oldest of three children born in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and spent most of her youth in Hershey. She loved spending her summer days at the Hershey pool with her brothers and cousins, and the winter ice skating on local waterways. She had fond memories of being in elementary school and buying five-cent bags of reject Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups from the workers at the back door of the Hershey Chocolate factory. As a teenager, she worked as an usher at the Hershey movie theater where she remembers seeing Milton Hershey attending movies every Saturday.

While attending high school, Isabel was involved with the Booster Club and was a member of the Yearbook Staff and school newspaper. Isabel graduated from Hershey High School in 1947 and moved to Denver, Colorado shortly after graduating. In Denver, she worked at the hat counter of JC Penney, and was a waitress at The Dixie Shop where she met her future husband Richard Metcalfe. Isabel and Richard married on July 1st, 1951. They had six children and they lived in Denver for many years before relocating to Broomfield, Colorado in 1976.

Isabel loved gardening, reading, cooking, socializing with her “club” of girlfriends, and she was an avid Denver Broncos fan.

Isabel passed away peacefully on October 23, 2022 at the age of 93 in Salt Lake City, where she had recently relocated to be near her daughter. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and matriarch, as well as for her infectious laugh and her pride in her Italian heritage.

She is preceded in Death by her husband Richard and her brother Thomas Poggi. Isabel is survived by her children Doug (Laura), Dave (Coda), Dana Baker (Dave), Dennis (Ame), Darrin (Stephanie), and Derek (Laura), as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her youngest brother Francis (Frank) Poggi of Arizona.

Isabel will be interred with her husband Richard at Crown Hill Cemetery in Lakewood, Colorado, and a Celebration of Life will be held in the coming months.
