He was born May 30, 1952 in Olney, Illinois to parents James V. and Pauline Boxell.
The family, which included older sisters Beverly and Carol and younger sister Mary, moved to Bismarck, ND when Jim was 6. They remained there until Jim graduated from Bismarck High School in 1970.
Jim continued his education for two year at the University of Wyoming before transferring to the University of Northern Colorado, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1977.
He also completed a Litho Preparation and Offset Printing program at Warren Technical Center.
Jim worked in the graphic design and painting industries. He followed and supported area artists and photographers and regularly visited the Denver Art Museum.
Throughout his life, he had a passion for many genres of music and continued to discover and enjoy both old and new artists.
He loved to share his enthusiasm for music with others, routinely inviting friends to join him in attending area concerts.
However, music wasn’t Jim’s only interest. As a member of the Rocky Mountain Region Porshe Club of America, he enjoyed traveling to auto shows across the country and driving his favorite car on scenic road trips.
He treasured his time with friends and exploring locales near and far.
Whether it was a trip to a faraway destination, a cup of coffee at an area café or sharing a meal at a favorite Mexican restaurant, Jim treasured his time with friends.
One of Jim’s favorite places to visit was Belle Isle, France, where his mother’s family originated, and Santa Fe, NM where he soaked up the local art scene.
Jim is survived by his sisters; Beverly Herman (Ray), Seymour, IL; Carol Campbell (Bruce) Lander, WY; and Mary Gallivan (Lyle), Lakewood.
He is also survived by nephews Mark Herman and Dave Campbell; nieces Jennifer McKay, Amy Salsgiver, Lynn Wingert, Sarah Gallivan and Emily Gallivan.
He was preceded in death by his mother Pauline Davidson Boxell and father James V. Boxell, of Golden.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be at 9:30 am Saturday, June 8 at Olinger Crown Hill Pavilion of Reflections, 7777 W. 29th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO, 80033.
Memorial gifts may be made in Jim’s name to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) or the Denver Art Museum.
