Jane was born in Indianola, IL. She grew up in Georgetown, IL to parents Vera (Van Fleet) and William Brooks. She was the only girl among three brothers. On March 31, 1949 Jane married Wilbur B Richie and celebrated 53 years of marriage. Jane and Wilbur lived in Ft Collins the first four years of their marriage. Wilbur attended CSU and Jane, with a baby in tow, worked as a paper carrier until Wilbur graduated. They lived in Arvada, Co until Wilbur decided to become a dentist. The family moved to Kansas City in 1955 and lived there for four years until Wilbur graduated. Jane held the family together, now with two boys, and worked several jobs to supplement their income. After Wilbur graduated in 1959 the family relocated to Arvada, CO until in 1960 they moved to Mt Vernon Country Club on Lookout Mountain where they resided and raised now three boys until Wilbur’s death in 2002. Jane worked a bit in Wilbur’s dental practice in Lakewood when he first started his dental practice and then concentrated on running the household and guiding her three boys to adulthood. In 2002 she relocated to Golden, CO where she resided independently for twenty one years. She was an incredible devoted mother; kind, caring, and always cooked meals from scratch for her family which was no easy feat with three always hungry boys. Later she doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was beloved by all. Jane loved to travel; Wilbur and Jane visited every state on their Harley Davidson except Hawaii and Alaska as well as jaunts around the world. She was a woman of faith her whole life and attended the First United Methodist church in Golden.
Jane is survived by her brother Harrell Brooks of Georgetown, her sons, Cavin (Lorraine), Jeffrey (Catherine), and Brian (Terri), five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren whom she loved very much. In keeping with Jane’s wishes there will be no memorial services. Donations in Jane’s name can be made to PETA, as she loved animals and had many dogs and cats. Or, Lutheran Hospice, 3210 Lutheran Parkway, Bldg.20, Wheatridge, CO 80033 who cared for her the last 2 years of her life. Her family will trek to Georgetown, IL next spring to place her urn next to her beloved husband Wilbur where they will celebrate her life amongst her many Georgetown Brooks relatives.
