Jay Edward Carlile, 81, died May 23 20225 surrounded by his family and friends. He was a Denver native who attended East High and then graduated from George Washington High School. He received a BA from Western Colorado University and a MBA from American Management Association in Lake Saranac, New York.
Jay was happiest when he was skiing, hiking, fishing, and camping. He was an extraordinary skier which led him to work with Olin Ski Company where he designed, manufactured, tested, demonstrated, and sold their downhill and cross-country skis. He skied and hiked in the United States and Europe. Jay climbed most of Colorados’s fourteeners and then the Monk, Eiger, and Jungfrau and other mountains in one of his favorite spots in Switzerland – the Lauterbrunnen Valley with a friend who was a Swiss Mountain Guide. In his 30’s Jay was married and divorced. He worked in the car industry and as a stock broker, while continuing to ski until he was 75.
Committed to his family and community, Jay cared for his mother, Alice Carlile, through a debleating disease and then cared for her pet dog. He supported students at Western Colorado University with scholarships and was on the Board of Directors. Jay had many adventures with his sister, family and friends, especially Beverly Eastburn and Shultz Greenberg. He watched out for and was befriended by his neighbors Kim and Dave Lenk, Matt Griffen, and Lou Hendrickson.
Jay is survived by his sister, Janet Carlile, and cousins, Dexter and Leslie Locker, Mike and Angie Carlile. His parents Alice and Jessie C. Carlile and grandparents Ruth and Alex Carlile, and Effie Williams pre-deceased him.
