

Jean and her twin sister Jane were born in Edgewater, Colorado to Patience and Francis Lutz. They joined their brothers Harold, Bob and sister Betty and were followed by brother Chuck, twins Darlene and Don and sister Margie.
Jean attended South High School in Denver where she was a member of the Acapella Choir. She married Joe Ratliff in 1948 and they raised 3 children, Sheryll, Christine and Alan. During this time she worked as a legal secretary for her brother Harold.
Jean married Robert Appleman in 1970 and together they traveled the world with a travel group, Ports of Call, and as representatives of the American Seed Trade Association.
Jean and Robert finally settled in Sun City, Arizona in 2002. Where they entertained many friends and family members in their home on the lake.
She was preceded in death by seven siblings, her husband Robert Appleman and her son Alan Ratliff.
A wonderful mother and friend, she leaves two daughters and their husbands, Sheryll Ratliff (Preston) Lee of Denver and Phoenix, and Christine Ratliff (David) Godek of Delaware; 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and their families. Jean is also survived by one brother in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and many nieces and nephews across the U.S.
