Jean Congdon

Jean Congdon long time Colorado resident died on October 22, 2012. She was born April 8, 1917 in Saskatchewan, Canada. She moved to N. Dakota as a young child, but moved to the Denver area where she lived most of her life. After graduating from North High in Denver she spent several years traveling and performing with Skating Vanities. Jean returned and worked over 30 Years with the City of Denver Department of Welfare.

She is survived by her younger sister, Cleo Congdon Beck of Colorado (currently living in Mt Vernon, OH). Preceding her in death were her brothers and sister, Leigh Congdon, Joy Walden, Donald Congdon; and her mother and father, Eleanor G. Congdon and Clarence P. Congdon

She never married, but had a great love for her 9 nieces and nephews, Karen Lightner (Jeff), Dan Congdon (Teri), Hal Congdon (Gwen), Del Congdon (Rosemary) and Dawn Turner (Louis), Arthur Beck Jr. (Rosemary), Roberta Lutton (John), Leigh Beck (Pat), Barbara Thomas (Larry). She had many Great, and Great-Great Nieces and Nephews and loved to attend their events.

She was active in Toastmasters, Red Cross, and the Salvation Army to name a few. Jean was very active in her church. She attended Faith Lutheran Church, Mt Vernon until she could no longer attend.

Her greatest passion in her later years was her doll collecting. She was very knowledgeable, and enjoyed researching the history of dolls and then educating others. She loved attending doll conventions. She was an active member of United Federation of Doll Collectors, Boulder Chapter. Through doll collecting she met her friend and traveling companion Diane Hoffman. She found much joy in finding a new doll at a convention sale, and then lovingly taking them around to visit all the other dolls. She enjoyed rescuing dogs then treating them as members of her family.

She will be missed by many, but we truly say that she lived her life to the fullest, and had many wonderful memories.

The family would like to thank The Ohio Eastern Star Home and Odyssey Hospice Care of Columbus for all their care and support.

Jean’s body will be returned to rest next to her mother at Olinger Crown Hill, Wheatridge, Colorado.

A memorial service will be scheduled in the future.
