Luro Jean Hale, age 88, of Denver, Colorado passed away peacefully on October 29, 2023. She was born in Denver on February 17, 1935, the second of two children born to Arthur Ernest Hale and Martha Frieda (Rickert) Hale. She attended Arvada High School along with Burrows Business School during the summer. She graduated from high school in 1952 and began working for Public Service Company (PSC) of Colorado as a calculator operator.
As a young girl, Luro Jean learned to play the piano and tap dance. As a young woman, she was an avid bowler who bowled in a number of leagues and even traveled out-of-state for tournaments. She took great pride in the purchase of her own home in April of 1973, which she paid off in 1982.
Luro Jean also took great pride in her work at PSC. She was a hard worker and attained the position of supervisor. She had contacts and made friends in almost every department in the company during her time working there, including many life-long friends. Jean especially enjoyed traveling back east to support the recovery and restoration of corporate data. She retired from Public Service Company in 1992 after 40 years of service.
After her retirement, she volunteered running bingo at the Senior Center. She was an active member of the Christian’s Women Club and was the club historian for a number of years. She also loved to do jigsaw puzzles, play cards, and played in a weekly bridge club.
Faith was a very important part of Luro Jean’s life. She was a frequent volunteer and an active, long-time member of Beth Eden Baptist Church. She also hosted a weekly Bible study in her home. Family and friends were also very important to her. She was an incredibly caring person who looked after her aging parents, aunts, uncles, and even some of her younger cousins. Jean was always ready to come to the aid of a friend and provide any support they needed as well.
Luro Jean was a truly generous spirit. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the Denver Rescue Mission. She loved to treat her family and friends to a meal and she always had an ice cream or candy bar on hand for her mail carrier, her gardener, and any guest who came to her door! This included always keeping treats on hand for her special four-legged friends too.
Luro Jean is survived by four cousins, Dick Hale, Alan Hale, Lyndon Talbott and Lois Thornton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother, William, her aunts, uncles, and a number of cousins. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Luro Jean's memory with a donation to The Denver Rescue Mission or Beth Eden Baptist Church.
