

Jean M. Romig of Wheat Ridge, Colorado passed away peacefully in her sleep May 8, 2025 at age 90. She is survived by her daughter Renee Sanders, her son-in-law Brent Sanders, her son David Romig, her daughter-in-law Laura Romig and her five grandchildren, Kelly, Mary, Rebecca, Lindsey and Richard. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Romig.
Jean was born August 18, 1934 to Helen and Kenneth Macomber Sr. in Denver, Colorado.
Jean grew up in Denver and Lakewood, Colorado during the depression and World War II. She learned quickly to persevere in order to overcome many hardships. Jean became a Jobs Daughter and later Jobs Daughter Queen in High School. She graduated second in her class at Lakewood High School. Jean graduated from Colorado Woman’s College where she earned an Associate of Arts in Social Studies. She graduated with academic honors including membership in Delta Tau Kapa and Phi Theta Kapa. She then graduated from the University of Denver with a Bachelor of Arts degree, where she earned additional academic honors including Phi Beta Kapa, Gappa Delta Pi, and Pi Gamma Mu. She joined the sorority Gamma Phi Beta and was Vice-President of the College of Arts and Science, a member of the Campus Commission and the Student Union Board.
Following graduation, Jean married Charles Romig. Jean then got a job teaching English and Social Studies with the Denver Public Schools teaching at Byers Junior High School. She stopped teaching to raise her children. Jean returned to teaching in the late 70's.
Her greatest devotion was to her family and to her church community at the Wheat Ridge United Church of Christ. Jean taught Sunday School and was fond of serving on the curriculum committee for the Sunday School where she supported the use of Bible comic books to encourage young readers. She enjoyed serving on numerous committees and boards. She especially liked to work with the Childcare Committee advocating for the needs of young families and their children in particular with children who were marginalized.
Jean’s passions were always learning and teaching. Additionally, she enjoyed music and occasionally would play the piano. She was particularly fond of watching musicals at times singing along. Prior to the death of her husband, she enjoyed travel with the family, gardening and spending time outdoors. She especially enjoyed drives in the fall to see the aspen leaves change colors in the mountains.
