Hans grew up in Terra Haute, Indiana and Golden, Colorado where he completed high school at Golden High School and graduated School of Mines as a Geological Engineer.
Hans served his as a 1st LT in the United States Army Corp of Engineers during the Korean Conflict.
Lucy Service was just a secretary at the School of Mines but Hans was sure she was the one. They married in 1955 and had 2 children together, Jennifer and David. Hans and Lucy raised their family in Golden and moved only one time, across the street from their previous residence.
Hans and Lucy served their community for over 20 years by volunteering at the Lakewood Youth Riding Club now known as The Westernaires.
Hans was always making things. Many of those inventions are still used today in the mining industry. He loved physics, and was writing a book in his later years but his eye sight didn't allow him to finish.
A private burial is to take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery with a Memorial Service to take place the Summer of 2021.
