58 years young, “Pops” passed away on December 22, 2012 after an 8 month fight with cancer. Born July 11, 1954 in Denver, Colorado to John and Dorothy Collins; John was very proud of being a native Coloradoan and his family’s roots in their beautiful state. Preceded in death by his parents John and Dorothy, John is survived by his older brother Ralph, his wife of 34 years Elaine, son Josh, son Zach & (Nicole) Collins, and his grandsons Marshall and Jackson.
John was a proud 32 year member of Pipefitters Local 208, including serving as a welding instructor for 12 years and a graduate of the UA instructor training program. John embodied the ideals and principles of organized labor and his trade. His dedication to mentoring, training and brotherhood has bettered the lives of so many, and will be truly missed.
A Harley man through and through, John loved riding his bikes with friends and family; especially in the mountains. Whether as a coach, teacher, coworker, friend, father, grandfather or husband; his humor and kind heart will be our lasting memory of John.
John’s memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday December 22, 2012 at Crown Hill Mortuary, Pavilion of Reflection. Pending suitable weather, anyone is welcome to bring their motorcycles to join “One Last Ride for John” following the service and prior to the reception.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Denver JATC 6350 N. Broadway, Ste 2, Denver, CO 80216. Proceeds will benefit the Pipefitters Apprenticeship Program.
