

He was the son of Edward Joseph and Agnes Brady Milan and was born on March 3, 1925 in Denver, Colorado. With his parents, four sisters and four brothers, he spent his childhood in the Denver, Colorado area. He graduated from South High School in 1942 and from the University of Denver with a Professional Degree in Architecture and Planning in 1951. As a lifelong student of architecture, he did post graduate work at a variety of institutions, including the University of Notre Dame, University of San Francisco, Columbia University and The University of London.
He served in the US Navy during WWII from 1942 – 1946 on the USS Holton, DD‐703, for assignments in both the European and Pacific Theaters. He had limited land duty in the Interior of China rescuing American Airmen who were held for ransom by Chinese warlords.
On June 18, 1949, John was united in marriage to Marjorie Lucille Pinamont at St. Vincent de Paul’s Catholic Church in Denver, Colorado. To this union one daughter and two sons were born. They made their home in Lakewood, Colorado. John’s life was centered on his faith, family and profession. As a devout member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church he was active inparish council as chair and served as architect for the master plan, school, rectory and sanctuary for his beloved parish. He practiced architecture for over 50 years leaving a legacy of beautiful buildings throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. He was an active member of the American Institute of Architects, Rotary International, and supported his community by serving on many boards and organizations, including chair of the City of Lakewood Public Building Authority, Lakewood Planning Commission and Lakewood Board of Appeals.
John will be remembered for his kind soul, storytelling, Irish wit and his ever‐present contagious smile. His deep commitment to architecture will live on through his buildings and his children, all who are engaged in creating better buildings and places for people.
He is survived by his three children and seven grandchildren. The children and their families include Barbara Kay Price of Aiken, SC; John Mark (Judy) of Lakewood, CO and children, Kelly and Rachel (Chris); and Kevin O (Carol) of Golden, CO and children, Megan, Alyssa, Lexi,Keenan and Ryan. He is also survived by his brother Tom Milan of Greeley, CO along with a host of friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brothers Edward, Joseph and Leo, and his sisters, Rita Romansik, Mary Agnes Foster, Florence Phau, and Teresa Ortner.
A Rosary Service will be held for John at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery, Pavilion of Reflection 7777 W.29th Ave. Wheat Ridge , CO at 6 PM. Memorial services will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Lakewood, CO at 11 AM on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. He will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
