John was born on April 26, 1954, in Denver, Colorado to Walter Dougal Morrison and Viola Olga (Sandburg) Morrison. He had a sister, Gail Shepherd and brother, David Morrison. John graduated from Westminster High school in 1972 and continued his education at Denver Automotive and Deisel College. During which time he worked for the city of Westminster in the maintenance department. One of the exciting companies he worked for was Halliburton where he traveled to places like Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Norway. As a side job, he would work for a dear friend, Sylvan Teel, fixing electrical parts for gas pumps. Additionally, he took pleasure in repairing cars for his family and friends.
John married Martha “Marcie” Dougan in 1979. The two were lifelong companions, becoming one in spirit. They were blessed with three children: Justin, John and Jennifer, who dearly miss him and the life lessons he imparted to them. Among the lessons was frugality and hard work. Family was very important to John, and he enjoyed chatting with all the members. His favorite role was as a grandparent. He treasured his time with his grandkids and loved being their Papa. He never failed to entertain them. One of the grandkid’s favorites was being hauled around the property on the four-wheeler.
He enjoyed being an active member of Redeemer Church, men’s breakfast, church picnics, and helping with the janitorial team. Highlights in his week were Friday night poker and Sunday Bronco games. His dry sense of humor often left people wondering if he was serious or just cleverly poking fun.
John was always a fighter; he overcame many life-threatening health conditions throughout his whole life.
John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marcie (Dougan) Morrison, his children Justin (Rachel) Morrison, John (Sarah) Morrison and Jennifer Morrison, grandchildren, Peter, Emily, Elliana, Aviana, and Asher, his cousin Frank, nephews, nieces, and childhood friend Danny.
John was preceded in death by his grandmother, both parents and siblings. He is enjoying his time in heaven with them and catching up on the neighborhood gossip.
