

On April 20, 2024 at the age of 87, June Loretta Zancanella of Loveland, Colorado passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s and spinal stenosis. She was comforted and surrounded by her loving family during her final days and moments.
June was born on October 29, 1936 in Denver Colorado, to Russell and Edith McCool. She was the youngest of seven children. June was raised and schooled in Colorado until she was twelve years old, living in Denver, Golden, Kremmling, Ridgway, Central City and Black Hawk before moving to New Mexico. Her father was a construction worker on major highways and was sent to Carlsbad, New Mexico in August of 1950.
June started the eighth grade and finished high school in Carlsbad graduating in May of 1955. She always loved Colorado and spent every summer she could with her sisters Margy and Eva who lived in Denver and Lois who lived in Ridgway.
She went to work for the telephone company in Carlsbad in May of 1955 as a telephone operator and transferred to the business office in August 1955. She married David (Buck) Nance in August 1955 and in October 1955 she quit working and became a full time homemaker and began raising David’s daughter Katy and Loved her like she was her own.
In September 1962 her first child Stephen was born and in August 1964 her daughter Brenda was born. The marriage to David (Buck) Nance ended in divorce in August 1965, subsequently June moved back to Denver with her two children in May 1966, heartbroken that she couldn’t also take Katy with her. Once back in Denver she was employed as an office worker for Peter Kiewit Son’s and Leon Suhm Construction until Feb 1969 when she moved to Golden and began working for the Jefferson County Treasurer’s office.
She met David Zancanella in December 1968, they were constant companions and in July 1976 they were married in Reno, Nevada.
June went to work for Amax Inc. in August 1974 and was employed in the Accounts Payable dept. until Oct. 1985, she then worked for Cobe Labs from Nov. 1985 to Jan 1989. She and David moved to Montrose, Co after his retirement from Coors in May 1989, they lived in Montrose for 3 years, then moved to Grand Junction until 2003 when they moved back to the Front Range where they lived in Berthoud, Johnstown, Loveland, back to Berthoud and finally back to Loveland.
She loved being with her four Grandchildren, Todd, Jeff, Megan and Hannah. She was very proud of her son Stephen and daughter Brenda and their achievements and loved them and their families very much. She loved being around people and enjoyed entertaining whenever possible. June was quite witty and loved laughing and joking with people and loved writing poetry.
June loved to bowl and was on bowling leagues in Montrose, Grand Junction and Loveland, and was a volunteer worker for Hospice of the Grand Valley in Grand Junction, CO. She also enjoyed walking with her friends and walked several 5K’s with her daughter.
She is survived by her son Stephen Nance & wife Amy, her daughter Brenda Peeples & husband David, grandchildren Megan Schoby, Hannah Nance, Jeff Peeples & wife Kayla, great grandchildren, Aria Peeples, June Peeples, and one on the way, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
June was preceded in death by her parents Russell and Edith, her beloved husband David Zancanella, her Step-daughter Katy Hayslip, her grandson Todd Peeples, a brother Billy, 5 sisters, Lois Hutt, Margy Sumrow, Eva Jane Marrs, Marion MCCool & baby McCool, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, two nieces and two nephews. And her two very loved and spoiled poodles Mandy & Princess.
Services will take place on Tuesday May 14, 2024 at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 7777 W. 29th Ave in Wheat Ridge, Co. with viewing from 9:30 – 10:00, service 10:00-11:00, reception 11:00-1:00 and procession to Ft. Logan National Cemetery starting at 1:00 with graveside services starting at 2:00. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Ft. Logan.
