Kay Karol Friend Friermood

Kay was born in Toledo, Ohio, but spent much of her childhood and teenage years in Elkhart, IN. Kay graduated from Elkhart High School and attended St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Indianapolis, IN. After graduation, Kay embarked on a long and satisfying career as a nurse. Kay thrived as a scrub nurse in the operating room, and was an especially respected member of the open-heart team. At St. Anthony’s hospital in Denver, where she spent most of her career as a nurse, she was admired and loved by many.

Devoted mother of Meredith Kay Friermood (William Hessler), Christopher Friend Friermood (Katey Kaiser Friermood), and Mitchell Friermood (Roxanne Bartlett Friermood); proud grandmother (“Ya-Ya”) of Avery and Jack Hessler and Fiona Eleanor Friermood.

Adored eldest sister of Michael Friend (Judy Mooneyham), Margaret “Peggy” (Douglas Smith), Christopher (Diane) Friend, Robert (Linda) Friend, and Norman (DeeAnn) Friend.

Daughter of the late Eleanor Friend (nee Jagodzinski) and William “Bill” Aaron Friend.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 1 5:00-7:00pm at Crown Hill Mortuary, 7777 W. 29th Ave, Lakewood, CO 80215. Funeral and mass will be held Tuesday, May 2nd at 11:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 1985 Miller Street, Lakewood, CO 80215. Burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Flowers are happily accepted to honor Kay for the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, contributions/donations to the surviving family can be made to offset financial expenses, or can be made to the charity of your choice.
