Born in Great Falls, Montana, Larry’s early life was a journey across the Big Sky Country. As the son of a Methodist minister, he was raised in the communities of Valier, Roundup, Polson, and Chinook. After graduating from Chinook High School, Larry earned his degree from Rocky Mountain College in Billings.
Larry began his professional life in banking, starting at Midland Bank in Billings before moving his growing family with his first wife, Alyce, to Missoula in 1969 and continuing his banking career at Southside National Bank. He was a man of diverse passions: He found joy in the resonance of his tuba, the rhythm of square dancing, the four-part harmony of The Rocky Mountaineers barbershop chorus, and the peaceful patience of Montana’s hunting and fishing spots. An active member of First United Methodist Church, the Elks Club, and the Shriners, Larry’s entrepreneurial and creative spirit led him to start a unique business in the late 1970s, issuing CB radio “handles” for fellow enthusiasts.
In the early 1980s, Larry’s path led him to Denver, Colorado. Larry was married to his second wife who was a mother of two. He dedicated many years of service to the State of Colorado, specifically within the Asbestos Abatement division within the Public Health and Environment Department, where he worked until his retirement.
In 2007, Larry found a wonderful partner in Mary Ann DeGroot. Together, they embraced their senior years with adventure. As Mary Ann’s primary travel partner, they explored numerous international destinations. Larry attended the Crestview Church in Boulder with Mary Ann, where they took great pride in becoming the congregation's eldest members before long. Known for their hospitality, they frequently opened their Westminster home to college students who couldn't travel for the holidays, ensuring no one spent the season alone. Larry enjoyed many happy years with Mary Ann.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Dover; his children, Greg Dover, Lianne (Ray) Mckean, and Cara (Todd) Lightfield; five grandchildren, Samantha (Nate) Weyandt, Hunter Bouck, Gabrielle Bouck, Mackenzie (Riley) Terry, and Madison Lightfield; and one great-grandson, Ezekiel Weyandt; Mary Ann's son's JR (Laura) Degroot, Tim (Serill) Degroot. He also leaves behind his brothers, John David (Mildred) Dover and Carwin (Theone) Dover, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Edwin and Carrie Dover; siblings Carol (Bob) Lind and Leroy (Louella) Dover; his former wife and mother of his children, Alyce Dover; his granddaughter, Taylor Bouck; and his second wife, Joyce Dover.
Larry will be forever remembered in our hearts.
A Memorial Service will be held at Crestview Christian Reformed Church, 3665 Madison Ave, Boulder, CO 80303, on June 26, 2026, at 10:00 am, followed by a reception.
