Larry was a welder by trade, working in metal fabrication. He was, however, a jack of all trades. In his younger years, he loved to hunt, fish, and camp with his family. He knew his way around a car, and raced a few stock cars himself at the old Lakeside racetrack, and was a huge fan of NASCAR. He also dabbled in boxing. He could fix just about anything (even if it was only with silicone, bailing wire, and duct tape). Larry was a man of the Lord, and was a parishioner of Saint Bernadette Catholic Parish for 51 years.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Soffie Martel; his children Larry (Carmen) Martel and Lorrie Dowell; his grandchildren, Tonja (Jesse) Alvarado, Jason (Stacy) Martel, Adam (Felisitas) Martel, and Emma Dowell; his great-grandchildren, Mercedes Alvarado, Jesse Alvarado, Jr., Ina Alvarado, Justin Alvarado, Glori Martel, C.J. Martel, Kanin Martel, and Athena Martel; siblings, Alice (Joe, dec.) Morales, Mickey (Manuel, dec.) Macias, Angel (Joe, dec.) Contreras, Katie (Bob) Quinones, and Tony (Judy) Martel; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Josephine (Ortiz) Martel; his sister, Carmen (Manuel, dec.) Rodriguez, his brother Frank (Jenny) Martel; two other siblings; and many aunts and uncles.
Services will be held at Saint Bernadette Catholic Church on October 19, 2017. Visitation will begin at 9:30am, with rosary and mass to follow at 10:30am.
Arrangements under the direction of Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary, Cemetery & Arboretum, Wheat Ridge, CO.
