Laura was reared in a loving, Christian home and professed Christ at an early age. She was a long-standing member of Peoples Presbyterian Church, where she served on various auxiliaries. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23, which she learned to recite as a little girl; and her favorite songs were "Amazing Grace" and "Take My Hand, Precious Lord".
Laura completed her primary and secondary education in the public school system in Humboldt, Tennessee. She moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where she completed Milday's Beauty School Cosmetology. Later she joined her sister, Zelma, in Denver, Colorado, where they operated a beauty shop. Being very good at managing her money, Laura purchased her own home where she operated her own beauty salon, "Stylette Beauty Den". Over the span of 50 years, Laura's profession as a licensed beautician served many in the community. Her other love was tending to her roses and growing vegetables in her backyard.
On Thursday, October 27, 1960, Laura Mae Vinson married the "dapper" Charles White (whom she affectionately called "Brother") at a Denver courthouse. After 41 years of marriage, on Thursday, February 2, 2012, Charles "Brother" White passed away. On March 20, 2013 Laura relocated to Jurupa Valley (Riverside), California to be closer to family.
Laura was always a jolly, friendly, and a generous person. With her beautiful smile and quick wit, she could always make you laugh. She said that although she never drank, she learned to cuss at a young age. "Mama would catch me cussing and want to spank me, but PaPa wouldn't let her", she laughed. Laura always had a unique name for everyone she knew, whether it was by nickname or description; and you would know who she was talking about. Her favorite color was blue. She liked television game shows, particularly "Price is Right" and "Wheal of Fortune"; she even entered into a few and won.
Laura quietly left this earth and went into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 4:20 a.m. to join the following loved ones who preceded her in death: Her parents; husband, Charles White; sister, Mrs. Annie Ruth Hinson; brother, Re. John Vinson; sister, Mrs. Mittis Johnston; and sister, Mrs. Zelma Cox.
Those who will cherish and honor Laura's memories are her niece, Annie L. Hooper, sister-in-law, Willa Mae Davis, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
