Laurie is survived by her husband Clay Walton of Golden; her daughter Sarah Sawin of Cincinnati, Ohio; her mother and husband Kathryn Ann Homer and Larry Homer of Trenton, Ohio; her aunts, Peggy Waczula and Ann Marie Castator of Middletown Ohio and Becky Maloney of Fayetteville, NC; her stepsons, Wesley Walton, Rob Ewanio, and Drew Walton, and cousins Susan McGuff Brady and Julie Castator. She is predeceased by her beloved grandmother Ann S. Waczula.
Laurie was born in Middletown, Ohio on February 6, 1967. She graduated from Edgewood HS in 1985. She was an accomplished student and member of the National Honors Society. Laurie played tennis, clarinet, and piano, acted in plays, and marched and danced with the drill team during her high school years. Her Senior year was spent as an exchange student in Kiel, Germany. Laurie graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Chemistry and worked as a Formulation Chemist in the personal care products industry. On September 4, 1995, she welcomed her beautiful daughter Sarah into the world, who was the most important part of her life. On May 14, 2016, she married Clay, an engineer and love of her life.
Laurie was above all things a beautiful and caring person. She loved music, cooking, old movies, adventure, and the loud roar from the back of a Harley Davidson. She would think nothing of riding all day in any direction and sleeping on the ground, only to repeat the journey in a different direction the next day. She loved travel and seeing new things. Her love of animals had her asking every day if she could get a bird, goat, chicken, bunny, pig, or any other creature to turn into a pet. She enjoyed hiking and camping in the Rockies and could become red-carpet-ready on a moment’s notice for a night on the town with her loved ones. Laurie was a skilled piano player and would play impromptu concerts of her favorite music with her pet Labradors for an audience. Laurie was a good cook and enjoyed trying new and different dishes, always leaving the kitchen looking like a tornado had struck. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 10AM on December 4, 2021, at Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, CO. A reception will follow at her home in Golden, CO.
