Leona Jean McVay, born on February 23, 1934, in Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, in Denver, Colorado. She was the fourth oldest child of Clara and Orval DeWitt and loving wife of the late Donald Bryce McVay.
Leona was a devoted mother with three children: Craig, Bonnie, and Monte. She was also a proud grandmother to Tyler, Trevor, Carleigh, and Micah. Among her large family of ten siblings, she is lovingly remembered by her surviving sisters Betty Moore, Irene DeWitt, Naomi Clark, and brothers Gerald and Don DeWitt.
An accomplished artist with a passion for creativity, Leona was recognized for her dedication to her craft and was honored as the "Most Improved Painter of the Year." Her artistic achievements brought joy not only to herself but also to those who admired her work. Beyond her art, Leona was known for her work ethic, fun spirit, and the many friendships she cultivated throughout her life.
Leona’s legacy is one of hard work, love, creativity, and connection. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. In her final days, she grew in her love for the Lord and cherished reading daily scripture with her son Craig.
