Lester was born on January 19, 1925 to Frank Lakey and Jenny Porter in Matheson, CO. He graduated from Simla High School, class of 1943. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army, Pacific Theater, during World War II and received an honorable discharge in 1945. After the war he married his high school sweetheart, Pearl Ehman, and they settled in Golden, CO. He then attended Colorado State University and graduated with a Pharmacist Degree.
Lester worked as a pharmacist after college and opened his own Pharmacy in 1950. He owned several stores over the years and sold the last one in the late 80’s. He continued to work until 2013 when he retired at the age of 89.
Lester was preceded in death by his wife Pearl Lakey.
Survivors include his daughter, Karla Lakey, his son, Jeff Lakey, his four grandchildren, Aaron and Nathan Hinkle and Jeffrey and Joseph Lakey, four great-grandchildren, Boston and Madelyn Hinkle and Aaron Jacob and Alex Hinkle.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday, August 17th at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 610 Coors Street, Lakewood, CO 80215 303-233-6327. A procession to the gravesite will follow the service at Golden Cemetery, 755 Ulysses Street, Golden, CO 303-279-1435. Please join us for a casual reception back at the church after the gravesite service.
