Margaret was born to James P. Scanlon and Agnes M. Caha Scanlon on a farm near Ceresco, Nebraska. She was one of eight children. Margaret graduated from Ceresco High School in 1943 where she was the Class President. She attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
Margaret taught in country schools in Eastern Nebraska and worked various factory jobs in Lincoln, Nebraska. She married Frank A. Soucek of Dwight, Nebraska on August 9, 1949 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Davy, Nebraska. They farmed briefly near Rising City Nebraska then moved to Lincoln Nebraska and began raising a family. They raised six children together.
Frank worked in law enforcement and in 1959 began a career as a Railroad Special Agent for the CB&Q Railroad. As Frank's career advanced Margaret and the family moved with him to Chicago, Illinois, Omaha, Nebraska and finally in 1969 settled in Denver, Colorado. Frank passed away suddenly on November 7, 1977. Margaret was left with the two youngest children to raise on her own. In Denver, she worked security jobs at Woolworths, Lakeside Amusement Park, and in education for the Denver Public Schools at Beach Court Elementary School.
Margaret was a devout Catholic. For many years she was a member Guardian Angels Catholic Church where she frequently did volunteer work, including Bingo, the Alter Rosary Society, the School Board and teaching CCD.
After her retirement, Margaret sold the family home in Denver and lived in apartments in Westminster and Denver, finally settling at the Sheridan Glen Apartments, until 2018 when she moved into Sandalwood Manor. Margaret is the mother of David (Grace) of Denver, Colorado; Frank (Diane) of Toledo, Ohio; Susan (Kelly) Kudrna of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; Mike (Patti) of Denver, Colorado; Mark of Denver, Colorado; and Joseph of Denver, Colorado.
After her services, Margaret will be cremated and laid to rest with her husband at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
