Margo Allis Gorin, born on July 12, 1963 passed away on October 19, 2011 after a valiant struggle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Stephen R. Gorin of Golden Colorado, her parents Ralph and Beth Garcia of Madison Connecticut, and two siblings, Dana Burnham of Wilmington, Massachusetts and Dr. Michael Garcia of Essex, Massachusetts. Margo was a graduate of Hand High School in Madison, Connecticut where she was co-captain of the girls’ tennis team and state doubles champion her senior year. She subsequently earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
Margo started a retail career in Connecticut and continued retail work in New Mexico after she married in 1989. She achieved the position of senior-level buyer for a New Mexico based chain of stores, where she was responsible for negotiating purchases and managing sales and inventory at multiple stores in New Mexico and Arizona.
Margo moved to Golden, Colorado with her husband in 1998 where she made a career change that became her calling and mission as a US Department of Energy (DOE) Financial Assistance Specialist for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Margo became a Contracting Officer providing funding to research and development of solar, wind, water, energy efficiency and other energy-related projects. She was a fierce advocate for advancing clean energy in the United States, and her work at the DOE was far more than a job to her – it was a mission in which she took great pride, and her enthusiasm and dedication were inspirational to her employees and co-workers.
Margo was also an incredibly caring and devoted person, and her impact on the personal lives of countless friends and associates goes beyond measure. She took an active interest in the lives and challenges of those around her, and provided mentorship, someone to talk to, and a shoulder to cry on for many people who will dearly miss her.
In lieu of cards or flowers, please send donations in her name to either Rocky Mountain Cancer Assistance (www.rockymountaincancerassistance.org) or Planned Parenthood of Denver (www.plannedparenthood.org/rocky-mountains/).
