Marian L. Frodine, known to many as "GG", age 93, of Wheat Ridge, Colorado passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Marian was born to Gus and Hattie Leona Malmborg on October 26th, 1927 in Oakdale, Nebraska. She grew up in Lusk, Wyoming with her three younger siblings, Shirley, Kenneth and Evelyn. Their father left when they were all still very young and their mother worked multiple jobs, so Marian became very much a mother-figure to her younger siblings. She also earned income from cleaning houses and babysitting.
She married Carl Frodine August 24th of 1945. Carl drove for PIE based out of Denver. His route took him through Lusk and he met Marian at a venue in town that hosted dancing. How they loved to dance! Carl and Marian's son Ron was born January 12th of 1947. In 1950, they bought their first home in Wheat Ridge and resided there the rest of their lives.
Marian was a homemaker and also worked for many years at Denver Dry Goods (a.k.a. The Denver, now Macy's). Carl and Marian delighted in dancing, golfing, bowling and traveling. Much of their traveling centered around visiting family. For many years during the springtime, they met Marian's sister Shirley and her husband Stan in Palm Springs so they could all golf together. They built a cabin up near Granby Lake with dear friends that they enjoyed for many years.
Carl and Marian became grandparents to Troy in October of 1969 and to Lori in February of 1973 from Ron's marriage to Lonnee, whom he was divorced from in 1999. Marian's fondest memories as a grandma were of she and Carl having Troy and Lori come to stay with them at their mountain cabin. Carl and Marian became great-grandparents to Jessa in June of 1994 and to Brielle in July of 1997 from Troy's marriage to Kim. There's nothing Carl and Marian loved more than spending time with their great-granddaughters during their retirement years.
In 2000, Ron became engaged to Bonnie, who had grown up across the street from the Frodine Family. However, his health was impacted greatly from his service in Vietnam and a wedding date was never set. It was the heartbreak of Carl and Marian's life when Ron passed away in January of 2006. Carl passed away in August of 2009 from pancreatic cancer. Marian tenderly cared for him herself until just two days before he passed in hospice care. After Carl's passing, Marian started attending Restoration Covenant Church with Troy, Kim, Jessa, Brielle and Bonnie. She was the oldest member and adored by the entire congregation.
She still enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking, visiting and attending aging friends' needs for quite some time. She especially loved to host Thanksgiving; she was an amazing cook and encouraged for her immediate family to invite others to join them. She always made every guest feel welcome, special and loved.
Marian's granddaughter Lori married Brett in May of 2013 and Marian traveled with Troy, Kim and the girls to Texas for the wedding. She celebrated another wedding in July of 2017 when her great-granddaughter Jessa married Jon.
Remarkably, considering her spinal stenosis diagnosis at a very young age, Marian had been living quite independently in her home of 70-plus years until very recently, needing assistance with certain chores and errands. Her favorite days were game-days with Brielle!
Marian was the most determined woman one could ever be blessed to know, as well as beautiful, loving, grace-filled, and humorous. Just days before planning to move to a senior living center, insurmountable weakness and pain had started rapidly progressing, resulting in a broken kneecap from a fall on February 2nd that was inoperable. Marian's health deteriorated quickly at the rehab facility, greatly due to the isolation from her family brought about by current pandemic restrictions. Bed confinement resulted in excruciating pain. She soon lost her appetite and became dehydrated, thus the goal changed to keeping her as comfortable as possible. The immediate family and her pastor were able to spend some very precious moments with her for a few days prior to her passing.
Survivors include her grandson Troy and his wife Kim; great-granddaughters Jessa and Brielle, Jessa's husband Jon; granddaughter Lori and her husband Brett; sister Shirley, brother Kenneth and his wife Norma, sister Evelyn and her husband Ken; many loving and cherished nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as the dearest of friends and neighbors Bonnie, Jay and Lori.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, son Ron, brother-in-law Stan, sister-in-law Paula, brother-in-law Roy, and sister-in-law Viola.
Marian's funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Ryan Ashley. Her final resting place will be beside her husband at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery. Donations may be made in her name to Restoration Covenant Church in Arvada using the link below.
