Marie Elizabeth Stewart

Marie Elizabeth Stewart, 93 of Thornton, Colorado, passed peacefully from this life, October 24th 2023. She was born November 23, 1929 in Denver Colorado to parents, Salvatore Calabrese and Lydia Gabel. Marie was youngest of nine siblings, (a baby girl, Gladys, died at 2 months old).

She was preceded in death by all of her siblings: Helen, Hazel, Anna, Rose, Gus, Lillian, and Peter John.

Marie graduated from Westminster High School. Marie loved to announce to all her birthdays, especially the ones that fell on Thanksgiving, as it would have this year. Marie lived her whole life in the Denver area. Marie was married to Wallace William Crump until his death in 1976. She married Bill (William) H. Stewart in 1977. The were happily married until Bill’s death in 2002. Marie was very active until her death with her church family at the First Congregational Church of Eastlake. She enjoyed the Thursday ladies’ lunch group and provided her special meal prayer cards (which can be found on the tables at the funeral reception). She took great pride in making sure all church members got birthday and holiday cards. Marie had a strong faith and was confident her spiritual journey would continue. She loved fast-food and going out for meals with family and friends. She made sure to place a birthday balloon in front of the celebrant, sometimes to their embarrassment. She was an extremely avid fan of the Denver Broncos, CU and CSU football teams. It was not unusual for her to watch 4 or 5 football games a day. Marie had been very involved in American Legion Auxiliary for many years and maintained and lifetime membership. She was very proud of her family and always wanted to know everything about everyone.

Her family tree has many branches. She is survived by her son W. Lee Crump (Becky) and daughter Linda Marie Crump-Bertram (Robert). She is also survived by six grandchildren, Erin Seedorf (Kyle), Jared Crump-Bertram (Jennifer), Tanya Zavala (Damian), Alycia Wright, Monica Gubler (Damon), and Rhiannon Crump) and 11 great-grandchildren (William, Ella, Aidan, Lydia, Kelsie, Damian, Khloe, Lillyana, Laylani, Aryiah, and Brooklyn). She is also survived by her stepson Mike Stewart (Beth) and his children Adam and Danny, stepdaughter Michelle Metzler and her children Valerie, Kara, and Kelly, stepson Andy Stewart (Pam), and stepson Paul Stewart (Ramon).

She was surrounded by loving family members and hospice staff during her short time at the Lutheran Hospice. Marie had received loving care from family members and hospice team from Elevation Hospice. Thank you, Doris, for wonderful nursing, Rosie for the warm showers, and all the hospice team for support and care. Marie is loved by many will be missed by all.
