Marilyn started her schooling at “The Little Red School House”, followed by Kindergarten at Edgewater Elementary. At that time there was a move to build two new Special Education schools. After 2 or 3 years of using classrooms in various buildings around the area the new schools were ready and Marilyn finished her schooling at Margret Walters School in Wheat Ridge at the age of 18.
Marilyn was involved in Special Olympics during this time participating in basketball and swimming. One year she was thrilled to travel to the Air Force Academy to spend a weekend participating in state Olympics. The following summer she moved with her family to Westcliffe, Colorado where she enjoyed living in the Wet Mountains, hiking in the summer, cutting and splitting fire wood in the fall, snowmobiling in the winter, and reading rural electric meters about four days a month. She had the happiest personality of one with Down Syndrome and loved going to church, WMU meetings, pot lucks, etc. She also enjoyed trips to Canon City or Pueblo for a day of shopping with her Mom and Aunt Dottie. Marilyn also loved to bowl and do latch hook rugs. With her smiles and hugs Marilyn brought a ray of sunshine into the lives of all who met her and she will be greatly missed.
