Margie passed away from the many that loved her on December 24, 2022. Born to Chester A. & Julia W. (Schlupp) Blackwood on January 19, 1925 in Denver, she grew up in the Bancroft area of Lakewood. She was the second child after William and before Dorothy and Sandra. She attended a small, two room school at Bancroft for 11 years, then graduated from Lakewood High School in 1942. She then attended Barnes Business School and the University of Denver Lamont School of Music. During the war she worked at the Remington Arms plant in Lakewood.
She is survived by her daughter Jini Bates (Bill), son Gus Price (Janet), sister Sandy True (John), 5 grandchildren Monica Mount (Tommy), Troy Price (Ursula), William Bates IV, Kelly Saling (Scott), and Adam Price, along with many well loved great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother William Blackwood (Dot), sister Dorothy/Tiny (Ed), husband Rex Price, and in-laws Rowland & Alice Price.
Having grown up in the depression and enduring the hardships of WWII, she learned to love family and friends.
After the war ended, a friend of hers convinced her to go out on a blind date, who turned out to be the love for her life. They married on August 4, 1946 at St.Thomas Episcopal Church in Denver. Like many of that generation, they started out with all they needed-love, hope and work ethic.
They moved to Arvada where they lived for 36 years. Margie enjoyed many things through her life including being a member of the local CSU Extension club, the Up-and-Doing Club, where she met many life-long friends and learned to cook. Word has it that she couldn’t boil water when she married. She learned well as everyone in the family relished going to Margie’s house for her home-cooked meals.
She was actively engaged in Girl Scouts for 10 years as a leader and an inspiration to many young women. Sixty years later many of the girl scouts still stayed in touch with Margie. She was a member of the PTA at Foster Elementary School in Arvada.
She loved outdoor activities such as skiing (snow and water), camping, hunting, fishing and gardening. In 1982 they built a home on a small ranch in Lafayette where they lived for 40 years.
Later on in life, she and her husband were able to travel the world and bring home wonderful stories and memories to share.
She enjoyed life and always had a smile and goodwill for all. In return Margie was loved by all.
A Celebration of Margie’s life will occur on April 29, 2023, at the Lionsgate Event Center in Lafayette, CO, at 11:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Margie’s name to the Colorado Symphony (www.coloradosymphony.com). Over many decades her most favorite outing was to the symphony. Music was one key to her happiness. Coffee, family and friends were the others.
