Marjorie Ann (nee Reed) Schmidt passed away on July 26, 2022, just days after her 88th birthday. Marjorie (Marge) enjoyed a rich life full of friends, experiences and joy and had great stories about it all. She was born in Cheyenne Wyoming but lived most of her life in Denver, Colorado and Phoenix, Arizona. Other places she called home include NYC, New York, Lindsborg, Kansas, Van Nuys, California and Windhoek, Namibia, South Africa.
Her creative talent always found an outlet – as a lifelong writer, theater manager, broadcast promotions executive (at both KUSA in Denver and KPNX in Phoenix), creator of the Lindsborg Christmas Village, and as a producer of parades, children’s television, museum exhibits, golf tournaments and award shows. Marge was honored with several awards, and she enjoyed seven retirements! But she also found ways to show her big heart and express her faith. She worked with inner city and migrant youth, volunteered as a missionary in Namibia, and always served her home parish in some capacity. She had a deep interest in her family genealogy and spent hours filling in branches on the family tree. Marge was proud to be part of the Scots-Irish Society of the USA (member of the Clan Fergusson), and one of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
And if that feels like a life well lived, there’s still more to say. She cared for and nurtured numerous pets throughout her life. She was always present for anything her grandchildren did and never turned down a good meal. Add to that a love of music – from the rock band comprised of her Sunday School class, nearly all musicals, to Drum Corps, to Jazz evenings with daughter Kristine. She had an amazing mind, always ready to debate current politics and amused all (ok, most) with her dry wit until the end.
No one ever met her who didn’t love her. She is survived by her daughters, Kristine (Tina) and Lisa; by her grandchildren, Trevor, Caleb, Keelin, and Kara; and by her great-granddaughter, Ryatt.
Celebration of Life will be held at Crown Hill Mortuary Pavilion on October 1 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Heifer International or to your local rescue mission.
