Mark Christopher Lane, 41, died unexpectedly June 29, 2013 at Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge, Colo. from complications related to Huntington’s disease.

Mark was born on October 10, 1971 in Lubbock, Texas. Because Mark was born with Cerebral Palsy, the Lane family moved to Denver shortly thereafter, where he would receive the best care possible at the Children’s Hospital of Denver. Despite what the doctors predicted, Mark grew into a man with a fighting spirit, kind heart, sharp mind and passion for sports, food and music. Though he was never supposed to speak, Mark overcame this obstacle and often it was hard to get him to stop talking.

As a youth Mark was a poster representative for United Way of Denver and had the opportunity to meet many of his heroes including Christopher Reeve and Karl Mecklenburg of the Denver Broncos. Over the years Mark enjoyed participating in Special Olympics and was also affiliated with and a supporter of United Cerebral Palsy of Denver. In 1992, Mark graduated from the Weiland School at the age of 21.

Mark dealt with physical disabilities that would overcome most human beings, but despite his physical limitations he never complained and was always grateful. He loved rooting for the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies and occasionally, the Dallas Cowboys to stay true to his Texas roots. One of Mark’s proudest moments was when he voted for Obama in the 2008 election. He also enjoyed cooking, taking trips to Central City with his family and betting with his Dad on football games (which he never paid if he lost).

Mark is survived by Marcia Lane-Matis (mother), Mike Lane (father), John Matis (step-father), Brandon Lane (brother), Laura Lane (sister-in-law), Leo Lane (nephew), Megan Neri (sister), Adam Neri (brother-in-law), Niki English (niece) and Stephen Lane (uncle).

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in memory of Mark Lane be made to Easter Seals Colorado (5755 W. Alameda Ave., Lakewood, CO 80226) or Huntington’s Disease Society of America (Rocky Mountain Chapter, 6545 W. 44th Ave.#1, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033) . If making donations by check, please write “in memory of Mark Lane” on the memo line.

We never had the privilege of meeting Mark. It was heart breaking to hear the reason for your inability to attend the 6/28/13 dinner party at our home, that being Mark's failing health. May God give you the peace and comfort so richly deserved, with God 's Speed to Mark.
