Mary was born on February 12, 1944, in Paternò, Italy. In 1955, she immigrated to the United States with her parents and sisters, entering through Ellis Island before settling in Denver, Colorado. Denver would become her lifelong home, where she built a life rich
in love, family, and cherished memories.
She attended North High School in Denver, where her vibrant personality and warm spirit began to shine. In 1963, Mary welcomed her beloved son, Richard, who preceded her in death and remained close to her heart always.
Mary enjoyed a long and successful career in real estate. As a licensed realtor and property manager, she was known for her professionalism, deep knowledge of the Denver housing market, and sincere dedication to helping others find a place to call home. She remained active in her work until 2021, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
In 1994, Mary married the love of her life, Zak Hanna, in Denver. Together, they shared 35 wonderful years filled with laughter, companionship, and adventure. Their travels took them across Europe and to Egypt, creating treasured memories that Mary held
dear.
Mary had a special gift for connecting with children—her own and those of others—bringing joy, warmth, and nurturing care to all she encountered. She was also an accomplished dancer, and it was through her love of dance that she met Zak, beginning a beautiful partnership.
Her devotion to family was perhaps most evident in the loving care she provided to her mother, Teresa, during her battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Mary’s strength, compassion, and selflessness were defining qualities that touched everyone around her.
She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Stoel; her husband, Zak Hanna; and her sisters, Josephine and Helen. She leaves behind her surviving sister Lena, her many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
Mary will be remembered for her resilience, her deep love for life, and her unwavering devotion to family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
May she rest in peace.
