Memory Gae Wollenweber, born May 13, 1950, passed away on August 7, 2025, in Golden, CO, due to complications from an accidental fall. She was the second child of parents Clark L. and Memory I. Wollenweber.
Memory was a shining example of a life well lived, balancing her deep love for humanity and service toward others with a rich personal life founded on genuine connection. There were few she encountered who were not touched by her capacity for understanding, warm smile, and generous wisdom. Her passing leaves countless lives richer for knowing her and, consequently, at a deep loss in her absence. It is with this grief in stride she is remembered as a champion of grace, wit, and loyalty to her community, having bettered the world in which she lived each day.
Memory is survived by her son Bobby, brother Wes, and sister-in-law Rosemary. She also leaves behind nieces Moorea, Marissa, Christa and Kirsten, nephews Kirk and Lance, and a wealth of beloved cousins across the country with whom she connected regularly.
Memory was always a proud Coloradoan, growing up in Denver before moving to Arvada during her childhood. She shared her adolescence with her older brother Clark and younger sister Polly, both who have predeceased her. Memory would often describe herself as something of a rebel youth, climbing trees, making up grand stories about owning a horse, and gleefully exploring the vast terrain of the still largely untouched front range with the fearless resolve only a child can truly muster.
Her grandmother Polly taught her the virtues of a compassionate lifestyle, and her deep faith in Jesus informed her journey toward serving others through teaching. Memory graduated from Arvada West High School in 1968 to pursue a degree in education at the University of Northern Colorado, leading to a 33-year long career devoted to elementary school children. She adored teaching, earning her the title of Jefferson County teacher of the year in the 80s. It was not uncommon in later years for her to be approached by former students who would recognize her out in the world and share a story of how she impacted their lives, be it through field trips to historic sites or standing on her head to get the kids’ attention during particularly rowdy classes.
After her retirement in the early 2000s, she turned her focus to bettering her local community. She volunteered as a mentor for incarcerated women, became a yoga instructor for seniors during COVID, and was a constant force in Coloradans for the Common Good, Wiz Kids, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as many more organizations than can fit on this page. She was especially proud to be a mother to her son Bobby, who she imbued with her loves of life, people, and creativity.
Memory will always be remembered for her natural goodwill, contagious laugh, and comforting presence throughout life’s peaks and valleys.
A celebration of life for close friends and family will be held August 27th 10:00 AM MST at Community of Grace Presbyterian Church, 7755 Vance Dr, Arvada, CO 80003. Those who cannot attend are invited to send flowers for the service.
