He was in World War Two. He worked many years for Exeter Drilling Company, as an accountant. He retired from there in 1992.
Merritt loved Big Band, Stage shows, trains, traveling, and working out at the gym. In his later years he enjoyed his tablet. Especially to watch his Western cowboy movies.
He is survived by his companion of thirty years Sarah Ann Smith. His grandson Chad Ver Schuer, and two great grandsons Logan Ver Schuer and Liam Ver Schuer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Nancy Bannick. He was loved by family and he loved his family the same.
