

Nancy Lea Haynes, 80, of Golden, Colorado, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025. A devoted mother, grandmother and friend, Nancy will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and adventurous spirit. Born on July 8, 1945, in Denver, she was the beloved daughter of Evelyn and Johnny Haynes and sister to Robert Haynes, all of whom preceded her in death.
Nancy married Floyd Merenkov in 1966 in Chicago, Illinois, and together they raised their children, Jeffrey Merenkov and Michele Merenkov. They divorced in 1991. Later in life, she was blessed with her grandson, Andrew Bauer. Her family was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them, especially her beloved grandson, who described her as kind, exciting, and heart-warming.
Nancy’s professional life was defined by more than 30 years of service to the Federal Government, including meaningful roles with the National Park Service and U.S. Geological Survey in administration and procurement. After retirement, she pursued her passions for travel, art and lifelong learning.
Nancy was known for her sense of humor, sharp intellect, curiosity and keen sense of observation. Her love of life and playful and open attitude made being with her a pleasure. Nancy had a natural gift for conversation, making people laugh and always feel valued. She loved animals—especially cats— nature, reading, and creative pursuits such as journaling, interior decorating and furniture restoration.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, at the Golden Community Center, 1470 10th Street, Golden, Colorado, with an option to join via Zoom. All are warmly welcome to honor her spirited and loving life.
