Nancy Riebel Snow was born January 23, 1930 in Columbus OH to parents Frank Riebel and Mildred Vieweg. She was a loving mother of four children, grandma to three grandchildren and ‘nana’ to four great-grandchildren. Nancy was a graduate of Wellesley College in Massachusetts and completed a Masters of Social Work at University of California at Berkeley and a Masters of Public Administration at the University of Colorado at Denver.
She devoted her love and her time to raising four children and to always helping others. She worked as social worker for many years in California, then for the State of Colorado as a Civil Rights Specialist. Her work there as a dedicated advocate for minority and disabled persons in housing accessibility continued until her retirement at the age of 80. Upon moving to Wheat Ridge, Colorado in 1965, she quickly became active in local governance, helping to incorporate the City, writing its Home Rule Charter and serving multiple terms on its City Council. Her leadership in the City and her advocacy for strong government continued well into her 80’s.
Nancy passed away on September 17, 2018 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her son Peter and is survived by her sisters Barbara Griffith, Linda Riebel and Heidi Nichols, brothers Frank and Mike Riebel, her daughter Karen Johnson and her sons Andrew and Michael Snow.
Her talents were many and her intellect formidable, but what will be missed most of all is her unending generosity, her unconditional love and the many ways she made the family, her friends, her home and her community a better place.
Her life will be celebrated with memorial services at 10:00am on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the Olinger Crown Hill Pavilion of Reflection with burial to follow at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery and a lunch reception at the Snow home.
