Nancy Gail Komar Van Dyke of Wheat Ridge, Colorado passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the age of 82. She was born on 7/13/1942 in Suffern, New York where she grew up in a strong Ukrainian family and attended her Catholic church often with her sister Judy.
Nancy graduated from an all-girls Catholic college in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she began her lifelong goal of learning and teaching. She went on to teach elementary school, specifically Title 1 reading, in Colorado for over 36 years where she shared her great love of books and reading to many generations of children.
Nancy was greatly involved in many charitable groups including her church, her book club, her retired teacher’s guild, and her quilt club where she quilted and gifted thousands of quilts during her lifetime. She lived a life of service, giving (books, quilts, school supplies, children’s clothing, and all her time) to her community. If she ever found someone with a need, she made a quilt for it! Nancy had a passion for the arts and regularly attended the ballet, theater, and the symphony.
Nancy is preceded in death by her husband Lucho Van Dyke and her mother Catherine Komar Terlak. She is survived by her sister Judy Willis, her children Elizabeth Jones and Steve Van Dyke, her grandchildren Amber Jones, Cody and Haden Frye, and her great-granddaughters Sophie and Madeline Jones-Robles.
Nancy was by far the most generous, giving and loving matriarch any family could wish for.
Nancy’s family would like to thank the fantastic caregivers from Synergy Care CNAs and Collier Hospice Center for the care and compassion they showed their beloved Mom in her final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Service at the Serenity Chapel at Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery at 7777 West 29th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, Colorado on Monday, February 10, 2025, 12:00 noon, followed by a reception with the family at 1:00pm in the same location.
