Neil Richard Weekley, born February 25, 1936, in Newton Falls, Ohio, passed away on August 8, 2024, after a cruel and unforgiving battle with dementia over the last 2.5 years. A Vietnam War combat veteran, Neil served his country with honor and dedication, retiring from the United States Air Force, after 20-years, as a Technical Sergeant. During his distinguished military career, he was awarded the Bronze Star for his exemplary bravery and service.
Neil spent his life in service not only to his country but also to his community. After his military career, he continued to protect and serve through his work with the Denver County Sheriff Department, Arapahoe County Sheriff Department, Denver Mint Police, and the United States Postal Service.
A longtime resident of both Lakewood, Colorado, and Canon City, Colorado, Neil was known for his strong belief in doing every job right the first time and putting forth his best effort in all endeavors. He was a man of action rather than words, choosing to show his care and concern for others through deeds rather than declarations of faith. Neil believed in the power of action to make the world a better place.
Neil is survived by his loving wife of 59-years, Anne Weekley, and his devoted family, who surrounded him with love at the time of his passing. His family remembers him as a man of integrity and strength.
In honoring Neil’s wishes, the family asks that no flowers be sent and mourners refrain from wearing black. Instead, everyone is encouraged to wear bright colors and to honor Neil's memory by making a positive difference in the lives of others, whether by donating to the Denver Rescue Mission or to an organization close to your heart. Hug those you love and your continuing actions will carry on Neil’s legacy.
A celebration of life service will be taking place at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary in their Heritage Hall, located at 7777 W. 29th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO at 10:00 am with a reception to follow. The graveside service will be held at Fort Logan Cemetery following the reception at 2:00 pm at shelter C.
