Dear Syd, Pat and Ian.
Words seem so feeble in moments like these. The depths of your pain and grief I cannot comprehend. I am so very, very sorry about you losing Noah. 
I remember our boys playing together, climbing the rocks at Red Rocks, with Noah by far the most adventurous of the bunch. It always struck me that he had such love for the outdoors and seemed fearless in his explorations.  
I have cried so many tears, as grief just keeps flowing through me. But grief I believe, is really just pure love flowing out of the corners of our eyes, that lump in our throat, and that hollow feeling in our chest. It’s all the love you want to give but can no longer.

I never had the opportunity to meet Noah, but I know and love his grandparents, Pat and Dick and I remember all the stories they would tell of his fierce independence and sense of self. The stories portrayed a tight knit family who loved each other dearly and provided  Noah with the opportunities that allowed him to grow into the young man he wanted to be. The photos they shared with me were of a boy and young man who couldn't have been more pleased with where he found himself. Camping trips in the "Minnow", being out in nature, taking life by the horns, he lived a life that was truly, uniquely his own.
I send my condolences to Sydney, Pat and Ian. I hope that your great love for each other buoys you now and in the future and that the memory of Noah allows you to smile proudly for the opportunity to have him be part of your family, if only briefly.

Like so many of us, I have loved and followed this young man since he was a  biscuit in Sydney's belly. So many memories float through my mind. Several of these begin with, "Um, Syd? Is it ok that Noah is up that high?" She knew, and she was so calm and patient, having seen Noah's physical ability demonstrated time and again. Syd would calmly call out, "Ok, Noah, that's high enough, come on back down." And he would come on down with great agility, possibly with a flip and a stuck landing. You think I'm kidding, but I'm not. I remember watching our boys (Noah, Ian and Oli) getting their footprints in cement at the Stephens' Home, playing in lakes, in fountains. I remember talking to Noah on the phone, him talking fast about the newest toy or sport such that I could barely keep up.  I remember him being a teen and still calling me Aunt Jennifer, a title that Noah and Ian bestow upon me with wonderful comfort. Now, impossibly, we look back at his too short life, but we realize what remarkable achievements he made in his time - true love, a solid career, a close friend group, a home he was proud of, and the unconditional love of his family. --- Syd, Pat, Ian --- I am forever sorry for the passing of your Noah. I love you. I love your family. I hold you all in my heart. And I will continue to speak Noah's name and will tell his stories. --- Like the Sedum Story: Noah found joy in what other people loved, as well as what he loved in his own right. I will always remember him "geeking out with me botanically" over the Sedum on the trail while hiking with Syd and all the boys, large and small, Pat, Partrick, Noah, Ian, and Oli. Sedum lanceolatum, I think?  Noah and I had such fun spying more clumps of Sedum down the trail, more yellow stars again and again. I was so excited. And Noah was so excited.
