

He was born in Chicago, IL to the late David Leo Fitzgerald and Margaret Scanlon Fitzgerald on October 15, 1932. Phil served in the U.S. Army both as an active Army member and in the Army Reserve. He received his training as an electrician. He received his Honorable discharged in March 1963. In early 1960 and for over 16 years Phil worked for Martin Marietta as a Quality Control inspector. It was there where he worked on the black boxes for the space program’s Titan I, II & Gemini missions. On September 9, 1967, he married Velia Betty Andrade.
Phil was an accomplished artist. He studied at the New York School of Art in early 1970. His specialty is working with and carving marble. He has created many figurative marble carvings which some have been displayed and sold at the Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design.
He is preceded in death by his father David Leo Fitzgerald and mother Margaret Fitzgerald, his brothers Robert Fitzgerald and John Fitzgerald and sisters Ann Fitzgerald and Barbara Blackburn.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Velia (Betty), three step-daughters, Dolores Mejias (Francisco), Yvonne Marsh (Alton), and Cynthia Mejia (Alfonso), his brother Joseph Fitzgerald, sisters MaryPat FitzGerald, Peggy Plemel, his grandchildren, Anthony, Alejandro, Ryan, Danielle, Amanda, Monique, and Evelio, great-grandchilden, Ayden, Cole, Addison, Giovanni, Christiano, and Guiliano and numerous nephews, nieces, and other family members and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am Thursday, December 17 from the Chapel of Peace at Olinger Crown Hill, with visitation beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be in Fort Logan National Cemetery.
