Phyllis J. Keegan was born in Beaman, Iowa. After graduating from high school and attending business school in Marshalltown, Iowa she moved to Denver, Colorado.
She met her husband of 58 years, Vern, at the VFW and they married February 22, 1952. Soon afterward they started their family of five children: Jan (Keegan) Jennings, Mike, Patti (Keegan) Harrell, Joe and Scott.
Phyllis enjoyed her grandchildren: Chris Jennings, Shannon Balzly, Megan Harrell, Lauren Harrell, Colin Harrell and Rachael Degurse. She also had one great-grandchild, Layla Balzly.
Crafts were an important part of Phyllis’ life. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed a variety of other crafts. She shared her love by sewing for her children and grandchildren. Every Christmas and Easter outfit was sewn by Grandma Phyllis. Gardening kept Phyllis busy in the summer months. She was a true lover of flowers. Cooking was also an endeavor that she truly excelled at. Her spaghetti sauce was one of the best.
After she and Vern retired they traveled and then settled at their home in Arvada. Recently, they sold their home of 44 years and moved to the Arvada Meridian Retirement Community. As Phyllis’ health began to fail the past few months, she moved to the Lakewood Meridian Health Center. Vern joined her in the Independent Living section of the facility.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Vern, her sister, Lorna (Skip) Brierly and her brother, Bob Anderson. She will be missed by all that loved her.
