Our friend Dick passed away in his apartment at Brookdale Senior Living at Lowry on August 25, 2021 at the age of 73. Dick left an extensively educated life full of books, music, performance art, the Classics, laughter, and community. Dick's true calling was with spiritual seeking and service and to this end he was part of the Franciscan Brotherhood; a role Dick took on and loved in each community he was involved with in his early years. After leaving the Church Dick used his administrative and analytic skills in the corporate world, particularly at US West Communications and later in the nonprofit world, as with the Denver Museum of Natural History and Science.
Dick maintained active social connections and contributed to every community he was involved with in ways that were sometimes obvious and often times, one-on-one. Dick found his identity in being openly gay and was active in supporting the gay community (and others) with religious, spiritual, and affable guidance or often simply as deep listener to whatever folks needed be heard. Dick's free-hand needlepoint was amazing and largely underappreciated for its depth and design. Many plants, gardens, and little dogs will share in the feeling of our loss. He will leave behind his fight with fibromyalga but we trust he has the dental work he always wanted while he teaches and directs musical and theatrical
plays wherever he finds a resting place.
Dick was predeceased by his parents George and Mary Stolarczyk, brother George D. Stolarczyk and sister Arlene Stolarczyk Makers, uncle Donald R. Chatrnuck Sr. (NJ), aunt Elizabeth (Betty) Dekar, cousin Cindy Dekar (NY), and his brother-in-law Joseph G. Leonard, (NY). He is survived by his sister Georgian Stolarczyk Leonard (NY), cousins Pat Gilbert (NY) and Donald Chatrnuck Jr. (NJ), nieces Karen M. Leonard Chatrnuck (NJ) and Jessie Dekar Salz, nephew Mark J. Leonard (NY) and family Jessica, Noah & Garth, and countless friends and acquaintances in the Denver area and upstate New York.
His remains will be cremated. Memorial Services will be hosted by family and friends, and Brookdale Lowry as well. We want to thank Brookdale Lowry for providing final years of care, skill, and friendship. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your gay and lesbian community, to a caregivers' fund at Brookdale Lowry (150 Quebec St, Denver, CO 80230 (303) 364-7149 brookdale.com), or to your local animal shelter.
Please love your pet, listen to music, read the classics, and be patient with others.
