Richard Lee Wood passed peacefully at his home in Lakewood on May 22, 2021 at the age of 88. Richard was born in Salida, CO and enlisted in the Army shortly after graduation from high school. He was stationed in Germany and spent 2 years in service to his country and found plenty of opportunities to do some traveling and exploring in and around Germany. After his time in the Army, Richard and a few of his friends from Salida moved to Denver and rented a basement apartment. While living in the apartment, Richard met his future bride, Doris, who lived upstairs with her parents. Richard and Doris were married June 13, 1959. Richard worked as a salesman for 2 different autobody paint supply companies and loved to do bodywork and paint on his family’s vehicles, including both of his children’s first cars.
In his free time, Richard enjoyed camping, hiking and fly-fishing, and spending time with family and friends. Richard’s positive outlook and wonderful sense of humor were evident to everyone he met. When you saw that twinkle in his eye, you knew he was about to say or do something fun.
Richard is survived by his wife Doris, son Jeff (Dawn), daughter Rhonda (Tod), 4 grandchildren – Katie Lynn (Kyle), Kristen (Brandon), Ashley and Nick and 1 great-grandchild, Harlynn. Richard was so proud that all 4 of his grandchildren pursued careers they are passionate about.
