He was assigned to a Marine Corps combat unit then volunteered for the 1st Marine Raider Battalion, 4th Marines, 6th Marine Division. He received a Purple Heart for severe wounds in combat in the Pacific. Although he never fully recovered from his war injuries, he enjoyed golfing and fishing.
He earned a Master’s degree in social work and was employed at Denver Department of Social Services as a children’s caseworker and later retired from Jefferson County Public Schools.
Robert is survived by one sister, daughter Carol Kreck, son Roger Lowe, two grand daughters and three great grand children.
Interment is at Ft. Logan National Cemetery alongside his wife, Hope Lowe, who was also a Navy veteran. He actively supported the Semper Fi Fund helping fellow wounded service members.
