

Robert Eugene Poland was born on January 22, 1926 in Salina, Kansas to the late George and Clara Poland. Robert spent most of his childhood in Kansas before the family moving to Colorado where Robert graduated high school from Union High School in Westminster, CO. Following high school, Robert joined the U.S. Navy during WWII. After the war, he returned home to Colorado.
In November of 1947, her married Wilma June. They lived for a short time in Este Park, and in Westminster, before purchasing his wife’s parents home where they lived for 66 years.
While living in Kansas, he worked for his father’s business, and spent his summers working on his grandparents’ farm. After her returned from the war, to Colorado, he worked a few odd jobs, before starting as a laborer for Newstrom-Davis Construction Company. He worked his way up from laborer, to carpenter, to superintended, and eventually purchased the company. He remained the owner until he retired at the age of 65. Newstrom-Davis Construction handled numerous construction projects such as: Phase one field lowering for Mile High Stadium along with the North Stands, Green Mountain Booster Station and Reservoir, numerous Safeway stores, condos in Steamboat Springs, remodels on Larimer Square, the State Capitol and the training facility at the United States Air Force Academy.
Robert loved to do woodworking. He was an artist and his garage was his place of sanctuary. Family and friends were blessed by his work including a bedroom set, a beautiful dining set, jewelry boxes, rocking horses, wagons, numerous sets of kitchen cabinets, desks, tables, lamps, bar tops and a variety of toys for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Robert loved to golf, fish, hunt, go camping, bowling, history, reading and held Bronco season tickets in the South Stands at Mile High Stadium for years. He loved the outdoors and his favorite vacation was in the back yard with is family and friend.
He loved spending time in the backyard by his pool and pool house. This was a pool and pool house he built himself. There was nothing he loved more than having family parties and gatherings at his home.
Robert loved others and putting them first. He was an incredible listener, intelligent and loved a good debate, and respected other people’s opinion’s even when he disagreed with them. He had a kind, gentle spirit, and drew others to him.
He belonged to the Carpenter’s Union for over twenty five years, and serviced as a volunteer fireman for Southwest Adams County Fire Department for over twenty years. Robert was very active in his community as part of the Optimst club, Pinochle Club, the Westminster Elks, Highland Hills Golf Club, American Legion, Society of Military Engineers, worked several years with the Boys Scouts, The Tomahawk Booster Club at Westminster High School and coached little league football and baseball.
Robert is survived by his wife of 73 years, Wilma J Poland; children Leanna L Poland, Guy (Lynn) Poland and Ty (Monica) Poland; sister Shirley (Richard) Wilson and 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
