Roger passed away on the morning of November 23, 2019, at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, CO, at the age of 70 with his loving family at his side. While his death came as a shock to his many friends and family, they take comfort in knowing his suffering was but a brief moment in an otherwise full and healthy life.
Roger is survived by his daughters Rachel McRay (husband, Dylan McRay) and Megan Germann, brother Paul and sister-in-law Audrey, his sister Ann, his sister Susan, and his partner, Angie Proffitt. He is preceded in death by his father Paul, his mother Anne, and his brother Charlie.
Roger was a Physical Education teacher with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Connecticut University and a Master of Arts in Education from Grand Canyon University. He taught all grades at one time or another in New York, Nevada, and Colorado while also coaching various sports teams, including soccer and lacrosse at many of his schools. In his retirement, he filled his time with a variety of interests and passions. Many afternoons were spent devouring books and listening to music, while just as many mornings were spent keeping up with friends and family. He loved sports and was an avid tennis player, going so far as to travel to Arizona in the winter for the sunshine and the game. Above all, he will be remembered best for the friendships he nurtured and the interest he took in the lives of those he loved. A truer friend is hard to find.
His funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 7 at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 7777 W. 29th Ave in Wheat Ridge, CO, and will be followed by a reception on site from 2:30-4:30 p.m. While we mourn the loss of a father, brother, and fierce friend, we remember Roger for his kindness, his thoughtfulness, and his love for life.
