

Roland Joseph Breaux was born July 23, 1929 to Harold and Atillia Breaux in Hartford, Connecticut. Roland excelled in sports, lettering in cross-country, swimming and track in all four years of high school and won the New England Cross-Country Championships his Junior year. For these accomplishments he was inducted into the Hartford High School Hall of Fame in 2004. Roland became the first in his family to attend college thanks to a cross-country/ track scholarship to the University of Wyoming. Two years later he transferred to the University of Denver where he graduated with a degree in education in 1951. He married Barbara Lemley that same year and after serving in the Marine Corps, they settled in the Denver area. While teaching he earned a Masters in Education and was Principal of Rose Hill Elementary School for 25 years. Roland had 22 wonderful years with Barbara and they had three children together, Ronald, Gary and Michelle. After Barbara's death in 1974, Roland married Gayle Gulick and they enjoyed 38 beautiful years together. Roland and Gayle had one daughter, Kristin.
Roland retired in 1985 and stayed very active raising his daughter and enjoying all that Colorado has to offer including fishing, skiing and hiking. He became an avid tennis player and travelled extensively with his family. Roland also volunteered with a variety of organizations helping those less fortunate.
He is survived by his wife, Gayle, children Ronald, Gary, Michelle and Kristin; son and daughter-in-laws Tom Hill, Aaron Swerchesky, Jayni Breaux and Nancy Breaux; 10 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. In honor of Roland's love for children and education, donations may be sent to:
