Ron Henkel was a great but simple man. A native to Colorado, he was born at St. Luke’s on April 6, 1945 at 9:38am to Daniel George Henkel and Rose Florence Gale. He had one brother Daniel Larry Henkel. At an early age, he and his family moved to Daniel’s Gardens from Globeville to a house with no plumbing. He and a neighbor boy were smoking in the outhouse and caught it on fire. His first real job was working for a neighbor who owned a trucking company. He worked for him for a number of years and was able to save to buy a Triumph Tiger Cub at age 14. His next set of wheels was a red ’55 Ford, 4 door. After graduating high school he went to work for Samsonite Luggage. Ron enjoyed the outdoors, mostly camping in the mountains and he was an excellent fisherman. He had a love of cars, mainly classic and was both an upholsterer by trade and a great mechanic.. Ron was loved by all of his family and also the family of his ex-wife, who had remained friends throughout raising their daughter. A very loving devoted father and mentor to his three kids, Shay, Justin and Hollie.
As he retired and eased into his later years you could find him having fun at the bowling alley with his Daughter Hollie, son-in-law Jorge, and Grandchildren Lorenz, Evangelina, and Cheyanna. On November 2, 2021 this world lost an honest and genuine soul. We love you Ron and will miss you until the day we are able to see you again. Thank you for our unforgettable memories.
