

Rose L. Bennett, passed away May 15, 2011 at Brookside Inn Nursing Home. She was born July 23, 1926, to Velma Pauline (Blackwell) and Ernest Hopkins Swaim. Eldest of four children, Rose grew up on a farm, moving to Ottumwa in her high school years. She met her future husband, Samuel W. Bennett, working for a pharmaceutical company in Ottumwa. They were married March 7, 1947. In August of 1948, their only daughter, Karen Bennett-Krueger was born.
Sam moved to Colorado in 1953 to secure employment before Rose and Karen joined him. Shortly later her sister Judy joined the family to finish her education. Rose worked for and retired from Stearns Roger Corp (Raytheon) after 37 years. Rose climbed the ranks from steno pool to supervisor of the steno pool and in later years became the first female buyer for the company. She worked on such projects as the Johnston Island in the Pacific. She loved her work but was forced into retirement due to poor health. Rose was a faithful member of the Seventh Day Adventist church.
Surviving is her daughter Karen (Don) Bennett-Krueger of Castle Rock, Colo.; two sisters Alice (Norman) Shepard of Agency and Judy (Steve) Robertson of Greeley, Colo.; sister-in-law Louise Swaim of Garden Grove, Calif.; and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Sam in April of 1975 and her brother, Ernest D. Swaim.
