Rose was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and favorite aunt. She is survived by her children: Jake Garcia Jr. (Irene) of Colorado Springs, Michael Garcia, Patricia Ann Sandoval, Lorenzo Sandoval, and Connie Christine Garcia of Denver, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Felix Maes, her parents, Don Salaz and Emma Archuleta of Saguache, Colorado. Her siblings: Florene Samora, Edward Richard Salaz Sr., Frieda Mayoral, Elizabeth Harrison, Chris Salaz, Joseph Salaz, and Trudy Quintana.
Rose was also preceded in death by her children Ronald H. Garcia, Carl E. Garcia, Connie Garcia-LeRoux, and Marlene Garcia (Michael). She was the mother of three angel babies—Rose Ann, Charlene, and Johnny—of Saguache, Colorado. She is fondly remembered with her beloved companion, her fur baby, Oso.
Rose lived in Denver’s Valverde neighborhood, in her home on W Archer Pl. Following the passing of her husband, Felix Maes (1939–2016), she continued her life there as a devoted widow, surrounded by and cared for by family. It was in this home that she raised her youngest children, Lorenzo and Connie, continuing her lifelong devotion to caring for others and serving as the family’s strong matriarch. Rose attended Sunday Mass and prayed the Holy Rosary each day. She loved flowers, cookies, fried chicken, sweet tea, courtroom television shows, and tapping her toe to her favorite song, “Happy” by Pharrell.
As a stroke survivor, she gradually lost many of her daily living abilities in her final years. She was recently blessed to celebrate her 95th birthday surrounded by several loved ones. She will be remembered for her deep faith, resilience, and the love she so freely shared.
The Holy Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, June 3, at 2:00 PM at All Saints Parish, 2559 S Federal Blvd, Denver, CO 80219. Details regarding the Mass, burial, and Celebration of a life loved will be announced at a later date.
