Roy A. Wilmore

Roy Allen Wilmore, died March 20, 2016 in Wheat Ridge, CO at the age of 83.

Roy was born in Denver CO on May 26, 1932 the 3rd child and second son of Joseph E. Wilmore and Bertha M. (Sawyer) Wilmore. Roy’s grandfather Joseph H. Wilmore was one of the original pioneers of the Wheat Ridge, Denver area. At the age of 18 Roy worked for Western Electric as a warehouse employee. He was drafted in the army also at the age of 18 and served in France during the Korean war for 2 years. He didn’t talk much about the war but did mention peeling potatoes and a dinner with his army buddies on the top of the Eiffel Tower. Upon returning to Denver after his service he continued his time with Western Electric and met the love of his life Nancy L. Heim of Denver. They were married on June 22, 1956 this year would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. Roy and Nancy have 2 children Judy A. (Smelser) of Arvada CO and Randy A. Wilmore of Paonia, CO, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Roy loved to fish and could often be found in the summer camping with his family along side of a lake in the mountains or on a boat with his buddy Clarence. Roy also enjoyed playing cards, watching any kind of sports on TV, especially basketball, and being with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Roy was also a master woodworker and many of his creations are enjoyed by his family today.

Roy A. Wilmore was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Donald E. Wilmore, Francis I. Carter and Marjorie E. Wilmore, daughter-in-law Linda M. (Hayes) Wilmore and son-in-law Ronald Roy Smelser.

Roy is survived by his wife Nancy L Wilmore, daughter, Judy A. Smelser, son, Randy A. Wilmore, granddaughters, Mandy Redabaugh, Melissa Sever, Alicia Wilmore, granddaughter in-law Christy Smelser, grandsons, Timothy Smelser, George Sever, Michael Wilmore, grandson in-law Beau Redabaugh and great grandchildren Kalea Redabaugh, Abrianna Redabaugh, Allie Redabaugh, Annalyse Smelser, Mitchell Smelser and Clayton Rossi.

Graveside service will be held at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery of Wheat Ridge at 11:00 am April 4th 2016.
