Russell Lamar Saxon, a cherished presence in the lives of many, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones in Denver, Colorado. Born on October 18, 1976, in Riverdale, Georgia, to Leonard and Rose Saxon, Russell's journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to education, his love for paddling rivers, and his profound devotion to his family and friends.
Russell knew that life was meant to be filled with family, friends, laughter, kindness, and adventures. He packed as much as he could into each day and constantly pursued his passions. An avid outdoorsman, Russell took every chance he could to paddle, fish, snowboard, bike, and camp outside. He spent his free time researching his next adventure and planning trips on the river for his family and friends.
Russell's commitment as a husband, father, son, and friend illuminated the lives of all those around him. He was a true beacon of warmth and wisdom and will be profoundly missed. He is survived by his beloved wife, Morgan, their treasured daughter, Emmalyn; his mother and stepfather, Rose and Ronald Nunnally; brothers, Richard and Robert Saxon; niece, Caitlyn Elizabeth Saxon and an extended family of dear friends. Russell's legacy lives on through his extensive network of friends and family, his memory forever etched in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. Russell was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Saxon; grandparents, Bowie and Grace Saxon; grandfather Thomas Mead; grandmother Grace Roberts Herrington and step grandfather Perry Harrington.
Russell was dedicated to the protection and conservation of Colorado’s rivers. In lieu of flowers, Russell would love it if you honored his life’s passion with a donation to the
The Colorado Watershed Assembly (CWA) which supports collaborative efforts to protect and improve the conservation values of Colorado’s land, water, and other natural resources. https://www.coloradowater.org/donation
