We come to you again so soon with sorrow in our hearts to inform everyone that again, heaven has gained another Angel. Bud died late Friday evening, 19 July 2019, unexpectedly while in Wind Crest Inpatient Rehab Center.
Bud was born 29 June 1936 to Seymour Marcus Chandler Sr. and Daisy Chandler in Vernal Utah, (that was the closest hospital to Skull Creek Colorado where his parents lived). He has one sister, Topsy Ann who now lives in Maine, and 3 other sisters who died shortly after childbirth. When he was 6 months old, they moved to Hayden Colorado where he grew up. Bud went to Edison Grade School and Hayden Union High School both in Hayden Colorado and graduated in 1954. He and Topsy belonged to a local square dance group sponsored by Marth Barrel, he was a cub scout, was the Editor of the yearbook and played the snare drum. When Bud was a freshman in High School, he joined DeMolay and was a member of Steamboat Chapter DeMolay where he was Master Councilor in 1954. He then went on to attend the University of Colorado where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in February of 1959. He was never able to attend his graduation ceremony in May because he had enlisted in the US Army Reserve.
Bud enlisted in the US Army Reserve 19 January 1959 and went to Basic Training in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO in February 1959. He was in Co. A, 381st Engineer Battalion and was discharged as a SP E5 on 17 January 1965. At Ft. Leonard Wood he was in Co. D., 2nd Battalion TBS. After basic he went into cooking and finished his last 6 month in service as a cook. He joined the Masonic Lodge in Hayden and received his 3rd degree in Craig Colorado just before leaving for Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO in 1959.
After returning from Basic Training he went to work for the Colorado Revenue Department where his Uncle, Earl Blevins, was the Director of Revenue and helped him and his Sister Topsy get a job processing license plate renewal. Bud was a data processor using Electric Accounting Machines (EAM) while working at the Colorado Revenue Department, Bud met his very best friend and roommate, Gene Columbia. Gene had mentioned that he knew a man that was the minister in Ft. Morgan and was now the minister for Grace Baptist Church in Denver. He was starting a young person’s group and Gene wanted Bud to come along with him. It was there at Grace Baptist Church that Bud met the love of his life, Pat Slimmer. Bud married Pat on 10 August 1963. They had 3 Children, 1st came Daylene Renee, which he once noted was one of his proudest moments to be the first to hold Daylene. Then came the twins, Keith David and Kerry Dean.
Over the next several years Bud worked at a few different companies beginning with Colorado Revenue Department as a data processor using Electric Accounting Machines (EAM). From there he moved on to “IT” departments for Univac, where he was a Systems Analyst. He moved on to Technical Graphics but found himself back at Univac again, then to Dixon Paper, Genesis, Modcomp, XIOS, Gould Electronics and finally to Adams County where he worked with their IBM AS400. He retired from Adams County after 19 years.
Bud was a very dedicated family man and no matter where he was traveling, he always made sure that his children knew that he was always coming home. Always remembering some simple trinket that he would bring from any one of the many vendors he was working with. As his boys grew up to be teenagers, Daylene said she had a friend who was in a boy’s club called DeMolay. Bud jumped up and said “Hey, I was in DeMolay.” Keith and Kerry wanted to do something to spend more time with their dad, so they joined DeMolay where Bud became an adult advisor and Chapter Chairman for Englewood Chapter of DeMolay. Bud became extremely involved with the boys and began working with DeMolay on a state level, becoming State Chapter Dad. Bud was State Chapter Dad for several State Master Councilors starting with Herb Carr, then Steve Brothers and finally Bernie Lehman. Bud earned several honors as a DeMolay, the highest being the Legion of Honor. Even as the boys he mentored grew up to be men they still called Bud “Dad Chandler”. In 2014, Bud had the opportunity to travel to Oklahoma with Daylene. He had never been there and wanted to visit where is mother was born in Chickasha and then on to Durant to visit the headquarters of the Choctaw Nation. While there, he was able to meet with the new Chief, Gary Batton, and visit the department where all historical records were kept. While researching his heritage, Bud discovered that his mom’s Great Granddad, Chief Nails was a Choctaw, but he was a white man adopted by the Choctaws and eventually made Chief. His mom’s Great Grandmother was a Choctaw. But always the first, and most important, was his cherished Patricia, she was his partner, she was his companion, she was his soul mate. He could not manage a life on this plane without her. And so, it shall be, he will be without her no longer.
Bud was preceded in death by his 3 sisters, Father, Seymour Marcus Sr., his Mother Daisy, Sisters-in-law Darlene and Betty, Grandson Daniel, niece Teri, and finally his beautiful wife Patricia. Bud is survived by his children, Daylene, Keith (Linda), and Kerry (Sherry); his grandchildren, Robert (Veronica), Katana, Colton (Melinda); and his great grandchildren, Jessica, Sam, Luke and Lily, As well as his sister Topsy (Ben) Elder; Sister-in-law Barbara (Leonard) Jenkins; brother in law, Wes Slimmer; and many nieces and nephews.
